Soprano Amy Conn is in demand throughout the Midwest as a soloist . She is known for her pure tone, commmunicative warmth and musical intelligence. Amy appears on both the concert and theater stage in music of many periods, with a special love for baroque repertoire. Recent engagements include Mozart's Mass in C Minor, Purcell's King Arthur and a staged version of Monteverdi's Ballo delle Ingrate. She appeared as one of 6 semi-finalists in the American Bach Soloist's Young Artist Competition in 2006. Amy often presents solo recitals at Chicago's Cultural Center.
Amy came to the Chicago area to study at Northwestern University. At the age of 19, she participated in Phyllis Curtin’s Singer’s Seminar at Tanglewood, further exploring song repertoire. In 1996, she was chosen to play the role of Venus in Scarlatti’s Venere, Amore e Ragione at the 1st Evelyn Dunbar Early Music Festival at Northwestern University. This was Amy’s first experience with period performance practice and made a large impression on her as an artist. She went on to study at the Academy for Early Music in Bressanone, Italy, the Baroque Performance Institute at Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the Amherst Early Music Festival.
While studying baroque performance practice, Amy Conn began to work in Chicago in operatic and choral repertoire. She sang many lead roles in Gilbert and Sullivan Operettas as well as traditional operas. Meeting up with other singers and instrumentalists interested in baroque music, she became one of the founding members of Urban Baroque which produced concerts between 1998 and 2003 and still comes together for occasional performances.
Amy Conn has been a member of the established Chicago musical organization, Music of the Baroque, since 1996. She has appeared as a soloist in programs of Monteverdi, Bach and Handel and has sung under the baton of Jane Glover and Daniel Beckwith. She alsosangwith Chicago a cappella from 2000-2007.
